The energy transition starts with local communities
How can public acceptance of the energy transition be achieved? Through personal encounters and transparent insights. That was the focus of the opening of the Bartow solar park in September 2025. More than 120 visitors from the region took the opportunity to learn about the facility and speak directly with the people behind the project. Local residents, representatives from politics and public administration, and regional media discussed renewable energy, biodiversity, and the development of the site. Guided tours of the solar park demonstrated how a project idea becomes a fully operational renewable energy facility. Questions were answered directly, background information was shared, and experiences were exchanged. Visitors gained valuable insights into the development of the site and the role such projects can play in advancing the regional energy transition. Supported by the local volunteer fire brigade, the event created an open and welcoming atmosphere that encouraged dialogue. The day clearly demonstrated that successful energy projects do not emerge in isolation. They become part of local communities and gain acceptance when people are involved from an early stage. For Encavis, events like this are far more than project milestones. They show that the energy transition is not only about technology and infrastructure, but above all about people, dialogue, and shared perspectives for the future.
How the Bartow solar park was created
More than megawatts: how solar parks can create habitats for nature
When people think of a solar park, they usually think of electricity. Solar modules, inverters, and the energy transition. But what if a solar park could also be a habitat for wildlife, a place of learning for young people, and part of a diverse ecosystem? That is exactly what the Talayuela solar park in Spain demonstrates. From the very beginning of the planning process, the focus was not only on generating renewable energy. Equal importance was given to enhancing the site ecologically and creating long-term habitats for plants and animals. Today, vegetation areas between the module rows, dry-stone walls rich in structure, and insect hotels characterize the solar park. They provide shelter for numerous animal species and promote biodiversity across the site. Carefully designed wildlife corridors allow small mammals to move freely and connect existing habitats. Newly created ponds improve access to water, floating nesting islands provide protected breeding areas for water birds, and additional nesting boxes support local bird populations. However, Talayuela is more than a place for energy generation and nature conservation. With the Nature Classroom, a learning environment has been established where school classes, university students, and visitors can experience firsthand how renewable energy and biodiversity can work together. Here, the energy transition is not only explained but made tangible. Talayuela shows that solar parks can be much more than places of electricity generation. When planned thoughtfully, they can contribute to biodiversity protection, enhance natural landscapes, and inspire people to support a sustainable future. This is how renewable energy can create added value that goes far beyond megawatts.

Why the energy transition doesn’t always need to be built from scratch
More electricity, greater efficiency, and no additional land use: the Parma 1 solar park in Italy demonstrates the potential of existing infrastructure. Instead of building a new facility, the site underwent a comprehensive modernization, preparing it for the next generation of solar energy. Through repowering and revamping, the park's capacity was increased from 6 MWp to 9 MWp. New single-axis tracking systems and modern solar modules improved efficiency by more than 30 percent. Today, Parma 1 generates enough renewable electricity to supply more than 3,000 households. But the story of this project is not only about technology. It illustrates how existing infrastructure can be further developed to meet future requirements. As energy demand continues to grow and available land remains limited, modernization and repowering will play an increasingly important role in the energy transition. Parma 1 makes one thing clear: progress does not always come through new construction. Sometimes it begins with the intelligent development of what already exists.
